Discussion:
Hershey's Cocoa?

I'm looking for Hershey's Cocoa, the plain unsweetened powder that's used
for baking, etc. but have not been able to find this particular brand in
Calgary. Has anyone seen it? I called Hershey's and they said it is
available in Canada but they don't have a store locator service outside of
the U.S. I've tried all the major grocers, Walmart, Costco, etc. with no
luck.

TIA,

Hershey is closing plants in the US and Canada later this year to import
product from Mexico. Find another brand, soon.

Thanks but Safeway only carries Frye's. I'm specifically looking for
Hershey's. It's the only commercial brand that's not Dutch-processed.

I'm fairly certain that Ghirardelli's unsweetened chocolate is natural.
Their sweetened products are definitely Dutch-processed, though.

You might also want to call Bernard Callebault, and ask them about their
cocoa powder.

Bernard Callebault's is Dutch-processed. Is Ghirardelli's available in
Calgary? I don't remember seeing it anywhere but it's not a brand I would
normally look for.

I know I've seen Ghirardelli's somewhere locally, but I'm not sure where.
Edelweiss Imports (on 20th Ave) has some of their products, but they don't
list cocoa powder on their website. Places like that or the kitchen
specialty shops are the most likely bets. Check the import food shops like
Lina's or Mercato.

And that's exactly why I'm looking for it. :-)
Have you seen it available in any stores in Calgary?

Then I guess our solution might have to be to drive to Montana and load up.
At least twice a year we do this as there are more than just Hershey's we
can't get here. Like those Coco Puffs too, often made with Hershey's. Mind
you Costco has the chocolate bars.... will have to see if they have the
powder. Maybe check there.

I checked Costco and they only carry Frye's cocoa. I can get natural cocoa
from a local health food store (Amaranth Whole Foods Market) but it's very
pricey at $1.63/100g, and I was hoping that Hershey's would be less
expensive.

Bummer Safeway doesn't have it anymore. All the stores out here are
discontinuing all of the products they got us addicted to.Even 711 has
stopped selling most of the products we like.I have herd 711 is going
under, anyone know if this is fact or just gossip. All the corporations and
chains were told to sell or they will go under because the Baby Boomers are
retiring and they have to wait for Gen X to spawn the Gen Y.They believe
that Gen Y is the next Baby Boom and that Gen X is a throw away generation
and they hate the Gen X because they are cheap and refuse to be programmed.I
believe that all we have come to know and love is slipping away. But I
digress. If you or anyone find the Hershey's please let us know as I prefer
Hershey's myself.
